The Data Analyst Certificate for Head Start Professionals is designed to provide a solid foundation in data analyst skills in the Head Start context.  There is a strong focus on the role of the data analyst in supporting the overall ability of the program to use data.  Emphasis is given to understanding the practical interactions between people, data, and systems over a focus on the data alone.

Learners who complete this course have demonstrated the ability to…

  • Define key terms related to data analysis
  • Evaluate the role of the data analyst in Head Start programs
  • Explain how data is used to ensure data quality and support organizational decisions
  • Develop and implement data plans in Head Start
  • Develop refreshable Excel templates by organizing data using PowerQuery
  • Organize data in pivot tables and charts
  • Build basic dashboards
  • Organize data for a range of audiences
  • Communicate data stories to audiences using stand-up meetings and lightning talks.

Timeline

Eight consecutive weeks
2 hours per week of synchronous Zoom meetings

  • Learn to make the most of your program management platforms (ChildPlus, COPA, GoEngage, MTS, Learning Genie, etc.)
  • Learn to build pivot tables, pivot charts, heat maps, and dashboards
  • Learn to make all those things refreshable with new data when it comes in
  • How to document all of that so you can share it with others in your program
  • Practice talking about data projects and results in quick, understandable terms
